So…….this is Subject:2
“Sublime” ….. “A Triumph!” …… “Simply Beautiful” are just some of the things people are saying about Subject:2’s debut release.
You could not fail to notice the ‘Basildon’ influence running throughout this album. Gary & Sandra are both long time admirers of the Basildon set; Vince Clarke, Alison Moyet, Martin Gore and close friend and collaborator Robert Marlow. Gary has worked with Vince on other projects and this has undoubtedly transferred to some of the tracks on ‘Forward/Return’.
The album is entirely self-penned with the exception of two outstanding tracks.
‘Feels Like I’m In Love’ a visceral reimagining of the Kelly Marie hit from 1981, brings new life and meaning to the Ray Dorset (Mungo Jerry) classic. Originally written for Elvis Presley, Subject:2’s interpretation blends brooding, vulnerable vocals and aortic pumping synth lines.
“Misplaced” written by Joy Marshall is a tender, raw introspection on grief and loss.
“I am so blessed to be able to sing this beautiful song, Joy has a unique way of viewing the world and a simply amazing way of communicating this through her otherworldly lyrics”
G Starky
