Press Info:
After a short break, Caduceus Records returns with a weighty techno 12″ by long-time friend, Pascal Hetzel.

Since moving to Berlin in 2013, Pascal Hetzel has been a steady presence in Berlin’s large electronic music community. After a string of first releases, he decided to keep his head down and focus on honing his studio skills. Hardware was bought; manuals were read and tutorials watched, followed by long free flowing jam sessions. Over time a sound emerged, one that combined dark strains of industrial-tinged techno with an old school sensibility, one that incorporated heavy drones, classic electro and the odd breakbeat. All well-worn tropes within electronic music, but Hetzel found a way to make them his own and come up with his own interpretation of those classic sounds. The harder, more driving techno and electro variations are reserved for releases under his own name on labels like Caduceus Records, Expansion Unit and Constant Variables (the label he co-runs) or, soon, Detroit’s Interdimensional Transmissions sub-label, Eye Teeth. While he shows his more melodic, old school referencing side in his project CYRK, alongside his partner Sammy Goosens (AKA Ecotone). He is also one of the international residents at Dubai’s famed club, Analog Room and is slowly but surely racking up air miles for his live and DJ sets.

Here, he delivers four storming tracks that cleverly translate the ‘90s techno heritage into the present. On ‘Motion Blur’ a hypnotic bleep sequence gives way for majestic pad sweeps just in time for your serotonin rush. ‘Stutter’ is more restrained, with a modulating chord sequence and sturdy drums, while ‘Timelapse’ catapults into darker territory filled with industrial shrapnel and an extra bit of high-octane paranoia. ‘Strobe’ is the fittingly titled closer of the EP; a pummelling piece of monochrome techno hypnosis with a massive kickdrum drenched in reverb and icy atmosphere.
