Japan’s top techno export Akihiro Mochizuki returns for his third EP on Figure, and he’s absolutely on top form! After the heavy, rolling maneuvers of his ‘Black Out’ EP last year, this new 3 track installment leaves no question as to Mochi’s talents.
Throwing us into the deep end with ‘Through The Never’, a pitching, rushing surge of full frontal bass pressure passes through the void. Climbing and peaking in classic Mochi stlye, the tension mounts and then subsides in a series of intense
builds.
On the flip the literally-titled ‘Climbing Exercise’ slams the energy even deeper to the floor. Brooding, cataclysmic and foreboding, this darkroom builder employs spooky synths and weird pitching machines as it ascends through your consciousness.
A digital bonus track is included in the form of ‘White Out’ – perhaps the darker brother of last year’s EP on Figure 19!? Tectonic drums and careful builds play with the tension as a reverb filled room slowly expands and contracts….
