Info:
The new Kontra-Musik release aims for the dancefloor. With two stunning Rivet (Naked Index) originals plus an anthem alert Marcel Fengler remix, this EP will make us dance. Of course ,as always, with a bit of a Kontra-Musik twist.

Rivet puts a lot of effort in his sounds and his production. This is not another copycat. The Rivet sound is after just a few releases a hallmark of dirty funk and originality blended with cinematic beauty.

First out on the EP Amid the Roar is Metrist, a sexy march that blends the stiffness 80-ties disco with techno from the future. A distorted bass line meets clever drums, metallic stabs and a beautiful string keeps the track in the moody Kontra-Musik territory. On the b-side Marcel Fengler takes his turn on Metris. He keeps the string of the original, chops up the bass and creates a dancefloor monster with a big anthem alert stamp on it. Amid the Roar ends with what might be the strongest track on the ep. With Sleepwalker Rivet brings us down with a broken and mud-drenched version of the Rivet sound. Medieval darkness turned into funk and beauty, with string and voices bringing thought back to Peter Benisch and his excellent Sound Track Saga album. Enjoy!

Rivet (Naked Index) is the well-kept secret behind one of 2011s strongest techno EPs – Inside Looking Out on Naked Index. Followed by the EP Running Thick and a very strong remix for Kowton on TEAL, this producer enigma now joins the Kontra-Musik stable with what will hopefully be a long lasting collaboration.

Press Info:
Müller Records, the Berlin-based label, has a long and proud tradition of high-quality releases. It also has a strong track record in sniffing out up-and-coming talent – acts like Berliner Falk Romstedt, alias Hawkinson. His EPs and remixes – check his former eps and remixes on muller records –  had already shown that he was equally at home creating techno with a driving groove as he was knocking out strong and detailed synth melodies. Now his first LP is being released on Müller Records.

“KLAF”, put succinctly, is an album that picks up the style of Hawkinson’s previous singles and runs with it. (OR: that expands on the style of Hawkinson’s previous singles.) It’s a story written by the dance floor, for the dance floor. Hawkinson is processing the experiences and emotions he’s had over the past few years both as consumer and DJ and really shows us where his roots lie – in techno! The influence of Detroit is all over this record and can be heard straight away, with strings, melodies and soulful surfaces drawing you in immediately. Added to that are the big fat pumping grooves, deep bass lines, chords and distinctly clattering hi-hats and percussions that are at the heart of Hawkinson’s sound. (OR: that define Hawkinson’s sound.)He doesn’t try to transcend other genre pigeonholes and is happy instead to showcase his own highly personal spectrum of sounds. Listeners to these 11 tracks can expect to take a trip into a wonderful sound universe, full of power and, more importantly, soul, which is transported directly to the dance floor.

Info:
Purity are London drum n’ bass duo Jill Stark and Florence Briggs who write, produce and programme their tracks with an agenda to create their own original and distractive sound that is Purity. The result is a mix of song based and instrumental tracks, energetic, melodic, pounding and unique. Though inspired and influenced by a range of musical tastes, its their love of drum and bass, dub step, rock and electronica that defines their tracks.

Their new album ‘Sliding into Chaos’ is out online through itunes, Amazon, CD baby and all other online distributors.

Purity originally started in 1997. Jill wrote and produced the first album and put the then 3 piece band together. The third member of the band was Icy Lazare on bass/keyboards.
They were the first band in the world to be signed to a record label from having their songs/tracks heard on-line. Several US record companies got in touch with Purity followed by UK labels. Purity’s sound was very much ahead of the time, comprising of song based drum n bass tracks with guitar, bass as well as instrumental tracks. Purity signed to Tommyboy Records New York producing and playing live to around half a million European audiences as support to Depeche Mode gaining rave reviews. The tracks can be heard on the album from 1997 ‘Bullets for Words’ which came out on Tommyboy Records. ‘Adrenalin’ v1 was the theme tune to the wrestling series WCW Nitro and found on the computer game. Jill also remixed Garbage “I think I’m paranoid’.

Purity’s new album will be available as download soon and features a 2011 remix of Adreanlin along with a re-mastered version of the original.

Press Info:
Quake is best described in one simple word: analogue. Hardware freaks to the core, this belgium based enigmatic duo makes their tracks with as little use of software as possible.

It’s only fitting that this release will be available on a limited run of 300 copies, pressed on white vinyl, and mastered to perfection by mister Cass Irvine at Wired London. His credentials include mastering the likes of Carl Craig’s Planet E to Swedish House Mafia, Dennis Ferrer or Minstry Of Sound, to name just a few.

Overall, the EP is a different approach to techno that seems to be coming at the right time as the pure, droning berlin techno seems to be at that crossroad where it needs to reinvent itself. We hope that this is exactly what you might be looking for.

The title track Device Overload is brutally minimalistic and simple, letting the hardware rip through whatever the amount of randomness it could handle. Plenty of distortion, electronic static and a genral detroit’ish feel give it just that typical unsettling sound.

The second track is a remix by our biggest hero of all time: Marcel Fengler. Berghain resident, an established techno producer and creator of the most recent Berghain mix cd and his own imprint. His remix is a massive shuffled techno drone that builds on the spooky strings from the original but takes it to a more pumping edge. Tested and approved on the KozzMozz dancefloor.

TX81Z is the b-side opener and takes everything a bit deeper for the techno opening sets. Once again the amount of variation is stunning considering this was all done with hardware during a major jamming session.

Condor is last but not least: a truely pumping techno monster that stands on the shoulders of detroit giants. It takes several times to take in just how much is happening in this track.

out now: A.Mochi – Black Phantom EP [Figure]

Title:
Black Phantom EP

Release Date:
18th January 2012

Format:
vinyl & digital

Tracklist:
01)
Black Reigns

02)
Stray

03)
Phantom

Info:
Our Japanese master of the dark arts returns, with his next single following the excellent ‘C2M’ earlier this year. A.Mochi is a maverick in the techno world, pushing harder and darker with his super-defined trademark rolling bass.

The A Side shows Mochi at his most focused, with ‘Black Reigns’. A driving, devilishly monotonous techno pump is interspersed with snappy snare fills as a wave of sound fills the spectrum. Highintensity builds follow as the thunderous moment in peak time techno takes its course.

Mochi takes us into more cerebral zones with ‘Stray’ – snaking percussion leading our minds to a deeper place as his casually deadly bassline works the sub-aural zones.

Finally ‘Phantom’ looks back at A.Mochi’s more twisted past, as a heavily syncopated monster appears amidst the smoke of the dancefloor. Static hiss, crisp metallic rides and lusty energy drive this percussive killer.
