Press Info:
Token celebrates its 100th release with Luke Slater, a legend of the genre, releasing under one of his most iconic aliases: Planetary Assault Systems. For over 25 years, Slater has delivered unparalleled quality in his music – a formative figure in Techno and instrumental in defining the sound globally, few can touch the Brit for depth, urgency and hit rate.

Exhibiting near enough perfect renditions of classic dance-floor moods, the four track EP is a wrought iron rollercoaster through some of the artist’s most exacting work. Booming opener Bang Wap chugs unrelentingly while a lithe FX line does the bulk of the movement in the high mid range – building tension before a satisfying release in the last quarter. A2 Bolt is classic Planetary Assault Systems – hypnotic and driving with a single sequence dipping in and out of view. On the flip, Say It Loud could be an idiosyncratic hit waiting to happen – dry and tight in the drum department for maximum effect, and featuring a recurring vocal sample chopped and skewed for tension. Closer Shine takes a deeper, more psychedelic route with shades of the classic, jacking Detroit sound in the pitch bent lead line, but maintains the energy throughout with stylish delay sends upping the ante where required, all in all delivering a neat finish to the EP.

Disappear 4
(Mike Parker Remix)

Press Info:
PTTRN follow up strong releases on labels like MindTrip and Float with a first high energy offering for Token. The record also marks Mike Parker’s first outing on the label with a stunning remix in his inimitable style.
A natural fit for Token, the Belgian duo serve up a neat package of rolling contemporary Techno – driven but dynamic and broad in terms of tone. The production is decidedly refined and riffs on the classic posits of the genre, making the very most of very little.

Opener Disappear 1 sets the scene: immediate, metallic material for the dance-floor and Disappear 2 doesn’t let the energy dip – a slice of pure peak time Techno executed with considerable deftness. Closing out the A side, Disappear 3 opens things up, a marginally more airy take on the same dense, rhythmic work. On the B side Disappear 4 goes deeper and more hypnotic but doesn’t lose the energy that defines the record before segueing into Parker’s remix – a powerful dose of the classic sound that has made the artist one of the true mainstays of the genre.

Press Info:
Dave Sumner returns with a new Function record, entitled Awakening From The Illusory Self. Released as a 12″ EP on Tresor Records, it follows on from Existenz, his last full-length album released in November 2019.

Packed in a beautiful sleeve printed with 3 x special Neon colors, Tresor.320 kicks off with the fast techno of ‘Misinterpretations Of Reality’, it features a minimal acid-infected crescendo and throbbing pulse. As ever with Function, this idiosyncratic rhythmic work finds a place out on a limb from contemporaries, shapeshifting impulses that infer and guide this raw drum sound.

The second track ‘An Optical Illusion Of Consciousness’, Function moves towards a different direction, bringing more elements to the mix. It recalls the Dutch 90s techno sound with its melodic blurred synth leanings stretching and morphing across saturated, playful drums and hefty low-end movement. Its bind is perfectly weighted, a phenomenal track that nurtures its inner dancefloor soul as melodies fade away and tighter patterns take precedence.

‘Spiritually Unconscious’ points to all the trademarks of Function’s celebrated sound. A smooth 909 groove underpins bubbling atmospheres and hallucinatory effects, and a nod to the Motor City vision with its fleeting synth strings. At the core is potent, repetitive simplicity, its beat playing with weight and dynamics but never at risk of being lost. Closing track ‘Compulsive Thinking – Repetitive and Pointless’ kicks a juddering swagger, finding public addressed system emissions drenched in reverb resonating above bleak analogic synth drones. It haunts and creeps towards a thunderous apex, finding its depth in sparse drum movements.

An enduring fixture in the techno and electronic music landscape, Sumner continues to step through new terrains, reinforcing his spike and vision. Awakening From The Illusory Self finds him as ever delivering the goods in elating moments of pure club heft.

Press Info:
Milan-based techno label Kriptika Records serves up a six-track various artist release featuring MSKD, GEERSON, Grace Dahl, Amstra and label founders HERMETE and DCMBR.

Kriptika Records have been making strides in the electronic music world. The first few releases from Rezystor, Stigmatique, Sligo, Julian Muller, Echoes of October, DJ IBON, and label bosses HERMETE and DCMBR picked up support from genre heavyweights such as Amelie Lens, Marcel Fengler and Regal and continue to keep fans engaged. Their first VA release continues down the path of releasing first-class hard techno with trance elements, industrial and high-energy, warehouse anthems.

First up is Diligences Records founder MSKD with ‘Flight 203’, offering up entrancing leads, pounding kicks and spiralling synths before ARTS affiliate GEERSON delivers fast-paced drums, tunnelling modulations and uplifting melodies in his ‘Dark Spirit’ track. Up next, Dutch producer Grace Dahl’s Mad Syndicate lays down haunting fx, emphatic rhythms and growling oscillations until Italy’s Amstra continues the high-octane sonics with ‘Conflict’, which fuses rave-inspired elements, mammoth percussion and churning synths. Label bosses HERMETE and DCMBR round off this fizzing release with their tracks ‘Rebuild Yourself by Yourself’ and ‘Emphasis’ that both unite trance-inducing atmospheres, uplifting pads and dynamic grooves which keep you enticed throughout.
