Having played in several major club capitals in Europe – and having become at ease with the production of many genres: from straight forward techno, nostalgic trancy sounds, electro-break-your-neck beats, to old-school stomping grooves – Chlär readies his Lobster Theremin debut; a devastating four-tracker that’s as raw and uncompromising as the free parties from which it was spawned.

‘Forgot To Dream’ kicks the trance revival into full swing; an emotional party track brimming with euphoric ‘hands in the air’ moments – unting the worlds of hard dance and fun, no frills cheese that results in a deadly blend. ‘We Will Bring It Back’ is a little more pertinacious as we see those hands turn to fists, banging a metaphorical drum as frenzied rave samples and kicks as hard as concrete dominate.

‘Double Dose’ sounds like something Sarumans Orc army would march to if electronic music was the order of the day in the LOTR universe; bruising kicks, alien atmospherics and glitchy techno inciting a mass frenzy before ‘Long Time No See takes us on a deep voyage direct to the underworld with a cut of typically loud and bloodcurdling rave.

Narciss’ latest EP for Lobster Theremin, Dear Diary, is an emotionally charged journey through smoked-filled rooms and packed-out corridors; lasers, strobes and wide eyes. As much a throwback to the golden era of trance as it is an ode to the producers techno aesthetic, it encapsulates an energy release – an escape from the grimness of the mundane, the fear of contemporary society left at the door as we venture further front left.

‘Ludmilla’ gets things started; a cut of tranced-out, progressive techno that builds and builds, emotional vocal stabs (“I need you”) further enhancing the connection between body and mind, listener and selector. ‘Tall People’ follows a similar route – deeper into the trance revival that has seen various contemporary artists producing some timelessly similar euphoria – it’s scenic techno, if the scene was an anime figure racing across a field on horseback.

The steady 4×4 rhythms are replaced on ‘It Gets Easier’; fast-paced sentiment that floats somewhere between breaks and garage, wrapped up in that signature trancey texture, before the Ikki Mel featuring ‘Blicke’ shows us the door with a completely different take on the previous three moods; this time offering up an altogether harder showcasing of the rave sound with its classic synth stabs and uncompromising kicks.

Opener Ice On My Neck sets the pace of the release combining bone-rattling drums & glacial pads to maximum effect, while title track Self Love Club ramps up the emotion without sacrificing any intensity.

Belgium-based French producer, DJ and Initial Berlin label owner Julian Muller has been slowly making his mark on the contemporary Techno scene over the past few years. Muller initially stepped into the limelight as one half of 90 Process alongside Hadone, with releases on Pushmaster Discs and 10 Pills Mate before going solo and delivering material for the likes of Arts Collective, Blue Hour, Bipolar Disorder and of course Lobster Theremin which will release his inaugural long player here.

Across the ‘Playing With The Devil’ LP Muller delivers his signature high octane aesthetic, fusing raw energetic rhythms with ethereal synth work and rave-leaning influence.

Tracks like ‘His Spirit All Around’, ‘Not Afraid’ and ‘Inner Fire’ all perfectly showcase Julian’s influence from early Hardcore, Trance and Rave music while contributions like opening cut ‘Final Devolution’, ‘Shaping The Future’ and ‘Leaving Earth’ edge towards a softer, more musical side with hints of Detroit Techno and early 2000’s IDM.

Muller also explores more glitched out electronica styles with choppy breaks, baroquely evolving synth melodies and cinematic soundscapes ebbing and flowing throughout ‘Come To Play With Us’ and ‘Eternal Damnation’. All in all resulting in a complete long player perfectly encapsulating Muller broad sonic palette.
