Press Info:
Ostalgia is Rhys Fulber’s second album for Sonic Groove following the success of last year’s Your Dystopia, My Utopia. Like its predecessor, it continues his interest in pushing new boundaries in industrial techno, with kicks and bass lines woven together with clinical precision to cause intense speaker pressure, and atmospheric synth lines that will dig deep inside your mind.

The title and the original socialist realism mural on the cover refer to Ostalgie – a romantic nostalgia for the old but comforting ways of Communist East Germany – and a yearning for rigid systems after progression into the future has led to chaos and uncertainty. While the music on Ostalgia is at times a reflection of that chaos and uncertainty, it also refers to Rhys further exploring his Germanic ancestry. And although the sledgehammer beats of 12 Steppes and Fission evoke Rhys’ previous work with industrial pioneers Front Line Assembly, he is not simply paying homage to his past musical escapades here.

This is forward-looking music, not content with resting on any past ideologies.

Press Info:
Adam X returns to his imprint Sonic Groove with his first album in four years, a 56 minute excursion into EBM and Cyberdelic Industrial Techno titled RECON MISSION. The mission begins with beat driven hypnotic electronics that invoke paranormal illusions of Easter island mythology and Bermuda Triangle disappearances. Climbing forward the album crosses the line into harder industrial territories, conjuring visions of New York City‘s dystopian past and CIA shadow government experiments.

Adam‘s own voice adorns tracks such as „Never Ending Quest“, „Modular Bodies“ and the title track „Recon Mission“, while manipulated dialogue samples take the stage on „ Tales Of Mystery” , “Search & Retrieval” & “Delusions Of Paranoia”. Subtle, whispered statements creep in and infect the listener‘s ear, guiding them deeper into mental oppression. This album is not for the faint of heart, and its meticulously detailed production stands as a testament to Adam X‘s enduring career in techno. Adam has survived the ups and downs of the industry while continually raising the bar for production value and sound design. RECON MISSION is a triumph, ahead of the curve of modern industrial techno. This is not a throwback, this is Future EBM.

Press Info:
Following up on their acclaimed 2016 album, “Pitch Black Mirror”, the Canadian duo return to Sonic Groove with four new tracks based on their improvised live performances. These are dance floor tracks with an experimental edge and a pervasive sense of dread, emphasizing the project’s decades – long commitment to fusing techno and industrial music in unique ways. Elements of EBM, electro, and rhythmic noise blur together as serpentine basslines twist through shifting layers of percussion, and modular dronescapes morph into agonized voices of suffering and defiance. Another powerful weapon from the Orphx arsenal.

Press Info:
Post Scriptum is the latest artist to join the Sonic Groove Records roster.

Previously releasing on Function’s legendary Infrastructure imprint, Post Scriptum changes gears stylistically in a very big way with his latest release entitled Until You Drop. Leaving his previous looped based purist Techno behind, Post Scriptum takes his sound exploration into the much darker cavernous world of Industrial Techno.

Dark As You Like starts off this musical odyssey with a fierce mid tempo, broken beat groove. The rhythm emits the real feel sensation of live played drums with its hard smashing snares and deep booming bass kicks which surely will have you play the air drums! Layered on top of this beast of a rhythm track, Post Scriptum provides the perfect lyricism with a smooth spoken narrative. Very forward thinking sound design curves its way in and out of the dark negative space the rhythm and vocals provide. Without imitation or sounding even remotely retro this evokes the feel of early Nine Inch Nails and Ministry.

Drop Zone is a highly intense workout with it’s pulsing staccato bassline and crackling filtered out lead line which builds into a growling beast of a riff that will completely consume the listener. You Won’t Find Me (Short Mix/Long Mix) takes things further into the post contemporary realm of present day Industrialized Techno with complex, bass heavy drum rhythms, slicing and dicing their way through a darkened acidic atmosphere of time, space and sound.

The joining of Post Scriptum and Sonic Groove Records is the perfect match with this beautifully crafted Techno-Industrial hybrid EP, a banger for the dance floor but also a delicious delicacy for your home turntable or music player. Post Scriptum Until You Drop will be released on July 24, 2017.

Press Info:
Sonic Groove Records further ignites 2017 with the label’s second release of the year by FIXMER/MCCARTHY titled ” Chemicals.” The legendary Douglas J. McCarthy, founder and frontman of the seminal and pioneering EBM project Nitzer Ebb, continues his alliance with Contemporary Techno producer Terence Fixmer together lending to the electronic music landscape with their combined artistic initiative.

The A side of this 3 track e.p. presents the title track ” Chemicals ” in two forms; the original version and an instrumental version. The evolution of the sound that first surfaced in 2003 on Terence Fixmer’s own, Lille, France based imprint Planet Rouge is apparent on this new installment in the FIXMER/MCCARTHY discography. ” Chemicals ” original version is a triumphant echo of EBM/Techno fusion constructed with current innovative electronic music production that retains the aesthetic of the original sound of EBM combined with the power of Douglas J. McCarthy’s defining vocal style. The fine auditory balance is all the neural support needed to effectively compliment McCarthy’s deep and thunderous vocals. This track is reminiscent of the classics ” Murderous ” and “Join In The Chant ” by Nitzer Ebb but clearly light years beyond. The lyrical content references topics relevant to the forward thinking sect of the electronic underground, appropriately titled and are delivered with the magnified intensity McCarthy has draped the planet with for well over 30 years and for what he has become very well known for. The Instrumental version stands extremely strong on it’s own and is, for all intents and purposes, a defining example of EBM proto Techno of the futuristic kind. The inclusion of this version expands the releases appeal and will serve the desires of any twilight excursion through dark sonic techno domains.

Side B continues this transmission with another gem titled ” Wrong Planet ” that has been polished to near perfection in every way imaginable. This is a new development in sound that expands the horizon for this specific genre exponentially. Everything else happens from here on out specifically because this magnitude of output is truly unprecedented and expands beyond crossover range. Fixmer completely demonstrates his expertise while McCarthy’s inspired voice of fueled and cryptic conviction carries forth, a combination of perfect elements that give birth to an anthem for the rooms that deserve and can appreciate this. For DJ’s of this legion, it’s the perfect tool for peak time injection of auditory dissonance and streamlined cadence. For producers, has subtleties, production technique and sophistication that will have one back in the studio with their inspired hands challenged.

This is a unique and advanced release for Sonic Groove and in current dystopian and bleak times it is comforting to know that there are still possibilities such as this to deliver us from it all.

* Editors note: The releases artwork was designed by Douglas J. McCarthy inspired by a logo used for Industrial/EBM events throughout Spain during the early part of the 80’s.
