Press Info:
25 years of Distillery. That’s a memory-laden, even historical event for underground and club culture. Or let’s just say, culture in general. Getting into detail about the impact, this club had for the last quarter-century, would fill a couple pages, so let’s just state the obvious real quick: Distillery has witnessed and co-determined socio-cultural change and progress in its past. Be it in its hometown Leipzig, basically building up the city’s infrastructure for club culture over the years. Or be it on national or international scale. It carries a legacy of being one of the longest-serving and one of the most influential clubs in Germany. Period. At the same time, it’s focus always lies ahead, sensing trends, running a booking that intersects the big players with the up and coming of an underground electronic music scene. With the same spirit that supported DJ/producers on their way to international careers, it brings up new talent.

It is this spirit in particular that now finally led into the idea of mirroring the club’s philosophy within the agenda of a record label. And as catalogue number one, unfolding a whole new chapter in Tille history, this anniversary compilation right here already nails what Distillery Records will be about. A conjunction of familiar faces and newcomers. A playground for residents, affiliates and just great artists that we like. An inclusive creative endeavour that covers a stylistic variety as broad as the club’s open minded programming.

That said, a rundown of the tracklist will prove the point. You’ll find “Thursday Noon”, the opening synth driven House- banger of young blood Napoleon Dynamite next to deep and spaced out Techno courtesy of Tille-resident Chris Manura. Lars Christian Müller’s atmospheric trip “No Future” next to Leipzig-scene-honcho Filburt who hands in a stomping and steaming cut, tinged by Electro-references. You’ll find a joint venture by Daniel Stefanik and Mathias Kaden that progresses from Detroit leanings into an affectionate Piano finale, bass heavy breaks by Monkey Maffia, Acid-grounded Dub Techno by genre-heavy weight Joel Mull, a rather odd take on Techno by Georg Bigalke and the record’s mightiest bounce in form of Héctor Oak’s take-no-prisoners-approach to move a crowd as the conclusion of this compilation.

A compilation, by the way, that’s accompanied by three digital only bonus tracks: Matthias Tanzmann’s “Salinas Thing” – a legit peaktime weapon flirting with contemporary tribal sounds, chord driven Deephouse by Thomas Stieler and the irresistibly grooving “Da Silva” by another key figure of the Leipzig-scene: Sven Tasnadi.

And a compilation that’s evidently curated with an all-killer-no-filler-agenda and the overall sensible approach to manifest the unique Distillery vibe on two plates of vinyl. This and further Distillery Records releases will be distributed by Kompakt.

“Sea Of Glass” is the representation of techno by “kod”. Something very large and cold, always evolving this ep represents the facets of a raw and dancing techno.

A very rave remix was made by “unklevon” and another rather dancing by “victoria.52”.the deep layers and percussive drums represent the several levels that can be found in the mineral elements or in the vast sea.

03.
Preset Minds

Press Info:
Steve Bicknell presents ‘Mind Patterns’ – a 3 track EP of brand new music on his own 6dimensions imprint.

This is frenetic high-octane techno of the highest pedigree, with added conceptual ideas based around Steve’s thoughts on human mind patterns, and how these patterns can be hard to change.

Bouncy bass, repetitive funk, hiss and acid squelch drive ‘Patterns Of Suppression’, which in Steve’s words is “based on a human cycle of suppression, how things can rarely change when in this repetitive cycle, and how difficult it can be to abruptly awaken from this mindset. The cycle can usually be broken by subtly shifting patterns over time.”

‘Preset Minds’ has an engine-like, propulsive and cyclic quality akin to a motor or a speedboat bouncing fast over waves. Steve comments enigmatically that it was “produced with a view of recognisability, something familiar from past teachings, which is then perceived to be known.”

‘Vein Injection’ was “recorded around my thoughts on producing an unfamiliar sound and frequency that has an immediate impact, driving one towards an awakened state.” A hard, fast electric shock, it’s essentially the audio equivalent of being trepanned into a higher state – by a power drill to the cranium.

Astral Spirits
(Headless Horseman Remix)

Press Info:
Voxnox Records mainstay and A&R Sept returns home for VN034.

A1) Sept opens up the EP with the forceful „Challenge“. Showcasing Sept’s trademark saturated, analog sound, „Challenge“ combines rolling percussion with eerie soundscaping and a haunting vocal. A true peak time weapon, this track is sure to set all systems alight.

A2) On „Challenge“ remix duties is longtime collaborator and friend, Violent. Drawing on the atmosphere of the original, Violent delivers a hard hitting, stomping techno banger that will find a lot of favour with those at the harder end of the spectrum.

B1) Opening up the B-side is a further Sept original, „Six Doors“. Employing his excellent use of soundscaping, „Six Doors“ is a measured stepper with undeniable UK influences. One for the deeper hours of the night.

B2) Closing off the originals on the EP is „Astral Spirits“. Aptly named, this ambient piece clearly displays Sept’s excellent production skills. Dark, eerie soundscapes and twitchy percussion make this an intoxicating and disturbing piece.

B3) For the final track on the EP, Voxnox Records is delighted to welcome Headless Horseman. Known for his exceptional and unique production style, the Horseman is surely one of techno’s greatest talents. Headless Horseman delivers a tough, remix that builds perfectly on the atmosphere of the original whilst showcasing his trademark galloping groove. Not to be missed.
