Press Info:
“For quite a number of years now I have been convinced that Mr Finlow is a conduit for musical transmissions beamed from a parallel universe, sometime in the future”. – Andrew Weatherall

“Carl has produced some of my favorited electro tracks of all time, and successfully occupies the most space in my record collection. He’s possibly not human”. – Maceo Plex

“Carl Finlow has been to the Electro movement a breath of fresh air. Whenever visiting Europe and playing clubs, I would always hear some music that always stood out from the rest, and caught my ear. Viewing the DJs record would always show a Carl Finlow moniker or production. Carl Finlow’s vocoder work was amazing and inspiring!”. – Keith Tucker / Aux 88

We hear the phrase ‘unsung hero’ slung around often, but if ever there was a true unsung hero in electronic music it would be Carl Finlow. Active since the early 90s, Finlow has produced a prolific catalogue under the pseudonyms Voice Stealer, Silicon Scally and Random Factor on revered labels including Warp, Klang and NovaMute. It is now time for Finlow to stand up and be counted for his lifetime contribution under his own name.

Finlow was the co-founder of 20/20 Vision records and produced many of the early releases so it is a fitting tribute that the label has now compiled a collection of his very best electro works including the timeless classics ‘Anomaly’, ‘Convergence’ and ‘Broken Mirror’ as well as undiscovered cutting edge gems like ‘Undercover’, ‘Format Wars’ and ‘Electromotive Force’.

Born in Liverpool, Finlow was given a Moog Concert Mate MG1 by his father at the age of 13. He spent his lunch breaks entertaining the bored kids of Fisher Moore High School with the original Axel F theme by Harold Faltermeyer. Carl was completely self-taught, managing to work out how to play keys and program synthesizers in his downtime. He has a pitch perfect ear and a natural gift for producing music.

Of course there was Kraftwerk at the centre of Finlow’s universe but his knowledge was honed from a young age into the more experimental worlds of Tomita, Raymond Scott, Wendy Carlos, Delia Derbyshire and the BBC Radiophonic workshop. Early forays into electro included listening to Cybotron and Model 500 but Finlow’s prolific period coincided with the second wave of Detroit electro led by Drexciya and Aux 88 and the superb album by Dopplereffekt, ‘Infophysix’. But it was the late James Stinson (1969-2002) produced Elecktroids – ‘Elektroworld’ that left the biggest imprint. Both albums were on constant repeat at the infamous after-parties that happened at The Farm most weekends after going to Back To Basics club in Leeds. After the weekend dust had settled, Finlow retreated into the studio to forge his own unique mark on the electro genre. The product is in your hands now.

Press Info:
There is a dichotomy within the very definition of the word Vault…on the one hand, a vaulted ceiling is typical in many sacred places of worship, forming an arch that is perfect for a choir to sing their praises to a higher power. On the other hand, one must go into a deep underground chamber or vault in order to unearth rare treasures only found through deliberate exploration.

Strathy’s new release embodies this split personality with four tracks that climb to the roof tops with euphoric synths, only to plunge down into turbulent catacombs. ‘’Space Nation’’ begins with a static radio transmission coiled around a cluster of drums ready for lift off. ‘’Duruti March’’ takes us down a granular path full of dense texture and grit and doesn’t let go. ‘’Arggg’’ comes barreling through at a breakneck pace and just as you settle into the raucous, galloping groove, a radiant choir chimes in as a counterbalance to the chaos. ‘’Modern Slave’’ lets us breath and gives room for a slightly twisted vocal to meander around a broken beat including the hint of hopeful yet melancholic synths and a bag of symbols seemingly being dragged across a concrete floor.

Strathy weaves these elements together in a multifaceted ep that is sure to challenge the body and mind and leave ecstatic dancers wanting to dig deeper into the Vault.

Press Info:
About the release
‘Fem’, the debut LP of Glós, is considered to act as a series of retrospectives, featuring ten tracks that revisit the highlights of the past five years in definitive and alternative versions among new cuts.

The over 80 minute long album will be available in two formats: As a 10 track album, all tracks purchasable separately or as a package, and as an alternative continuous mix for free download. Both versions are different, but based around the same music.

The release date for both versions is Sunday, the 9th of September—exactly five years after Glós’s very first release on Non-Print’s sister-label Ressort Imprint in 2013.

About Non-Print
Non-Print is an experimental Electronic music publishing platform run by Ekserd, Glós, and Tansu Firatli. The Ressort Imprint sister label focuses on music outside of the usual club context and tries out new ways and concepts to compliment the long play format.
