Six years after his latest LP ‘Busted With A Bag Of Bliss’ came out on My Favourite Robot, Canadian indie electronica master Sid Le Rock returns with his fifth studio album ‘Scenic Route’.

The new LP, which will come out on April 26 via hafendisko, is the result of a year-long production process, marked by total creative freedom in the studio.

“Reflecting the ethos of my over 15-year long music career, ‘Scenic Route’ is all about taking the long way — embracing my experiences and humility by continuing forth along a road less traveled, rather than seeking instant gratification and shortcuts in life,” Sid Le Rock says.

With a total of eight LPs, four of which were released under his Sid Le Rock moniker, it’s clear that albums are the Berlin-based producer, live act, DJ and vocalist’s preferred form of expression.

“I’m an album artist. I prefer the concept of an album, because it’s more intertwined with all your influences, your musical goals and directions, and you can get away with a lot more experimenting, expression and explorations than you can with an EP. EPs for me are foreplay,” he explains.

With a total running time of 60 minutes, Scenic Route is a musical journey through a wide palette of sounds, ranging from dancefloor tracks ‘Kismet’ and ‘Morgenfrisk’, electro masterpieces ‘Speak Sweetly’ and ‘Hiraeth’, vocal-heavy indie electronica gems ‘Slowpoke’ and ‘First Kiss’, and cinematic beauties like ‘Waldeinsamkeit’.

Luke Slater’s timeless ‘Love’ gets remixed by Burial, Marcel Dettmann, Lucy, Scuba, Silent Servant, and more on Mote-Evolver this May.

Released on Slater’s iconic ‘Freek Funk’ album on NovaMute – one of the most seminal techno albums of the 90s – ‘Love’ finally gets the remix treatment it deserves more than two decades after its initial release.

Leading the charge, Burial makes one of his rare appearances on remix duties and doesn’t disappoint with an atmospheric and mesmerising reimagining with an aesthetic reminiscent of ‘Untrue’. Lucy then reels out a deep-diving techno roller with precision kicks and tantalising melodies. Luke Slater then adopts his The 7th Plain moniker for a collage of sound extending past the 15-minute mark, before upping the energy with a moody reverberating number as Planetary Assault Systems.

Marcel Dettmann provides two takes on ‘Love’; his ‘City’ remix features a cacophony of metallic rhythm, ebbing pads and plenty of swing whilst mantra-like vocals operate throughout, followed by the thudding ‘Black Glove’ remix with its murky tones and rattling effects. Cascading drums and lively trumpets is next in Silent Servant’s upbeat and infectious take, until Scuba concludes the release under his SCB alias with a high-tempo cut fuelled by funk complete with an idyllic breakdown.

Znzl is constantly working on shaping his techno. According to his words, his two main focus are: offering nasty grooves to dance to and fulfilling the mind with curious soundscapes. For the second release of Demian Records, the artist goes from demonic tales to etheral and joyful moments, a myth of contrasted rhythmes. Describing something close to an enlightenment, the EP is a keepsake from the most intense phases of it. This is the drama of a girl who’s fantasy is anchored in reality.

Blurring the lines in between genres and breaking the codes, this is what drives Marie, Maxence, M’hamed and Tom, the founders of Demian Records. Techno has developed with several shades, however, some obscure parts of the genre remain unexplored. In the fertile grounds of what the contemporary techno scene is nowadays, Demian opts out for that tenebrous side. It aims to communicate the mystical energy that can be conveyed through the music and to celebrate the techno feeling with exalted atmospheres and dark and incisive rhythms. Demian records was born from long and meticulous endeavors, important encounters, difficult researches and deep spiritual experiences, where hedonism and brutality meet. Filtered by four pairs of ears with different sensibilities, the label’s productions put technical precision at the service of authentic emotions.
