TIB006 text: Timbuktu’ sees long-time associates Ferrer and Sydenham going out with some techy house flavors on Ibadan, with a solid groove joined by a sublime synth stab and some great chant snippets, while a driving bassline and great percussion elements fatten out the track nicely. Amotik teams up with Deluka for a split techno 12” on new imprint AMTK+
Having released his own music for several years on his self-titled label, Berlin-based DJ/producer Amotik presents AMTK+, a new extension of the imprint focussed on featuring other artists via split-EPs. Leading this new series is an EP from Italian-born producer Deluka and Amotik himself, a four-track offering of stripped-back, hypnotic, driving and meditative techno from two artists at the top of their game.
“I was given many opportunities from kind people around me when I first moved to Berlin and started my own label, so I’ve been wanting to be able to collaborate with others for some time now. Having recently quit my day job, I finally have the time and energy to work on this project and focus on A+R. I always get sent such amazing music from producers to play in my DJ sets, and the idea behind the sub-label is to create a solid community of like-minded artists who I fully believe in and whose music has resonated with me over the years.
As this project is a labour of love, I know all artists personally in some way, so it’s very important to me that this is not just another record label but also the forming of a collective of like-minded souls with a shared musical vision. All releases have been tried and tested over and over again in my DJ sets, so I’m really excited to present this new project and share the music that I love. If you’ve heard any of my DJ sets over the last year, you will have heard these tracks before” – Amotik.

Atlantic is from the forthcoming album ‘The Strand Cinema’ out 24th March.
Jump into Phil Kieran’s new video for the single ‘Atlantic’ out 24th February which gives a first glimpse of the album A/V show
‘The Strand Cinema’, a much anticipated concept album by Belfast electronic music producer and composer Phil Kieran will be released later this year, preceded by this brand new single, ‘Atlantic ’out 24th February on PKR which will be the first vinyl release from Phil’s own imprint Phil Kieran Recordings in 10 years.
While the album could be described as hybrid of symphonic electronica, komische or experimental mood music, Atlantic includes techno and dancefloor orientated edits. The work is reminiscent of the beginnings of acid house, evoking a dystopian or, possibly, utopian atmosphere all in a recognisable off kilter, emotive Phil Kieran fashion. This is music for the head and the feet.
“Atlantic” encapsulates the various sonic worlds of music, film and DJing that Kieran is currently operating in, merging an almost euphoric dance beat layered with infectious melodies, while remaining anchored to organic sounds, as strings and percussion collide with the driving and hypnotic groove of the track.
This blend of natural and machine sounds is a feature of the entire album and A/V show which Phil created with 11 visual artists from the worlds of film, animation, architecture, computer science, generative art and contemporary dance. They have interpreted the music into visual art pieces to explore the balance between nature and technology. The Ulster Orchestra will accompany Phil in a special one-off, cinematic preview of the album A/V show at the Strand in Belfast, on the 4th March.
The video for Atlantic (watch below) was created by BAFTA nominated Scottish filmmaker Simone Smith using archive footage from Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Archive.
Phil Kieran states ”The album was created from organic sounds, manipulated by machines. These machines in my studio only sound as good as the human soul and spirit I put into them. I’m not so sure that AI generated music can ever sound human.”
Kieran adds “I named the track Atlantic because it has an expansive sound with lots of rippling, dark, complex undercurrents. Then a close friend said it sounded like 808 States ‘Pacific’ and I can think of no better compliment so I called it Atlantic ’
