Normally an outlet for label chief Subjected and his two conspirators Mørbeck and Sawlin only, Vault Series next breaks its exclusivity with a new offshoot: the Vault Remix Series. For the first edition, the underground imprint—famed for its idiosyncratic blend of raw industrial sounds, shadowy timbres and punishing basslines—taps three contemporary peers for reworks of Subjected’s menacing “005.7”.

On the A-side, Mote-Evoler mainstay Shifted turns in a poised and powerful “Reduction” mix, cleaning off “005.7”’s original rust and clatter to deliver a more sleek and well-oiled machine. Next up Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer turn their Tuff City Kids guise on “005.7”, steering it’s steely hydraulics and caustic edge into warmer house climes with plush chords and crashes.

On the B-side Modularz man Developer brings in his own haunted melody to the table, plied to a cantering beat to utterly transform “005.7” once more. The package closes with Vault Series member Mørbeck taking things right back to their dark and brooding origins. Slashes of synths add a sci-fi edge, matched with those grainy textures and scopey kicks that have come to define the trio’s output on Vault so far.

It’s been over a year since the Planete Rouge graced our fair roster, which is why we’re pleased to welcome Terence Fixmer back into the EDLX fold with ‘Bells’.

This is the fifth stand-alone EP from him for Electric Deluxe, on top of his last LP ‘Comedy Of Menace,’ and offers three more exquisite samples of what the techno veteran does best. Almost a counter-point to Fixmer’s last EDLX release—the dubby, warmed through ‘When The Sun’ EP—‘Bells’ is a homage to the pitch black dance floors of the night, with all his hypnotism and industrial hues in place.

“Bells” opens right in the thick of it, with alarm knells and viscous vapours swirling round a lasso loop that will hook you until sunrise. “In Chains” is it’s raw cousin—just as dark, unsettled, and riled with analogue sounds. But as midnight begins to dip into eternity, closer “Subspace Two” offers up a lasting sunny reprieve. The EP ends on a serotonin-soaked moment where dub, techno and house close their eyes and sway as one. ‘Bells’ is a versatile record, which sees Terence Fixmer cater for every nocturnal occasion.

The third and last part of Receiver series teams up Berghain resident Marcel Fengler with Italian producer Neel, also known Donato Dozzy’s partner in Voices From The Lake. Fengler brings his trademark Berlin sound to the table, deftly reworking ‘Inspection In Solitude’. He strips down the original and builds it from the ground up, using shuffling percussion and an insistent melody. Time to jack. Neel’s remix brings a deep and dark tunnel to mind. It builds and builds and builds until the original loop from ‘Objects From The Past’ appears out of the fog, bringing this stunning remix to an epic end.

The first part of the Receiver release series sees Donato Dozzy reworking Attribute 39. The Italian maestro steers the original into a blissful, emotional domain.
