Thomas Hessler, Kas:st, Pär Grindvik, Glos, PVNV and Intimate Silence boss Silent-One team up for six alleviating, ambient cuts entitled ‘Traces’.

The Stuttgart based label have been making rapid progression within the beatless techno community since establishing themselves back in 2016. In addition to releasing ambient soundscapes to the highest standard they hold a regular radio show on Rinse France which acts as a firm reflection for their intricate, dronebased sounds. ‘Traces’ includes tracks from a new wave of promising techno names who offered earlier contributions on the label including PVNV, Glos and boss Silent-One, as well as IMF’s Thomas Hessler, French duo and Flyance label chiefs KAS:ST and Swedish figurehead Pär Grindvik.

Hessler’s ‘Pearl’ kicks off with warm pads, winding synth progression and delicate atmospheres before Kas:st’s ‘Are We Alone In The Universe’ delivers levitating ambience through tranquil chords, angelic leads and resonating stabs. Silent One’s ‘Snakes’ then patiently deploys growling tones wonderfully balanced with tense waves of shimmering low end.

Pär Grindvik lightens things up with ‘FZ Kolarbo’ which fuses uplifting elements and mellifluous notes with alluring charm whilst twisting melodies and euphoric modulations become ever present in PVNV’s emotive builder ‘Squal’. Glos’ ‘Silk (Figurine)’ then finishes things off by balancing calming voices, healing harmonics and trance-inducing softness.

We live in a complicated age. As the global population rises, the demand for work increases, while the possibilities dwindle. This is further exacerbated when governments turn inwards, destroying their own people. For these reasons among many others, it is now more critical than ever that we approach our fellow human beings with a sense of compassion, understanding, and helpfulness.

Our mission at Unrush has always been to help unravel the stresses of daily life. Whether it be through our monthly podcasts or our event series in Berlin, we have continually aimed to alleviate the complications inherent in simply existing. With the launch of The Unrush Tapes, we have now decided to do something palpable in order to share the music we love while simultaneously relieving some of the real, serious problems that burden people’s lives. Therefore, all profits from this tape will go to help4people in Berlin e.V., a non-profit charity dedicated to seeing the successful integration of the much overlooked African immigrants in Berlin.

Musically we have turned to many past Unrush contributors for their generous offerings, including Wanderwelle, Shaded Explorer, Katya Yonder, Bleak, Sirko Mueller, 3KZ, John Heckle and many others. With a textural palate to match the diversity of mankind, there is a subtle narrative that forms throughout the compositions. German producer Silent-One presents an ambient four track release on his own label Intimate Silence this February.

Part of the From Another Mind crew alongside Obscure Shape & SHDW and Javier Bähr, Silent-One (real name Benedikt Merkl) launched Intimate Silence as a platform for ambient music in 2016. Since then the label has hosted artists like Ressort Imprint regular Głós, Taapion Records co-founder PVNV and Arsenik Records’ Dold, however this release sees the label founder make his very own debut.

Fuzzy atmospherics and chilling chord sequences set the tone for the ominous ‘Human Border’ before ghostly synths and twinkling melodies work together to form ‘Decide Your Fate’. On the flip, mesmerising arpeggios meander within an echoing setting in ‘Sign of Anxiety’ until the murky ‘Lost Souls’ pairs dusky elements with a spoken word sample to create a sci-fi aesthetic to conclude the release.
