Arkham Friends’ is a 2 part compilation with an uncompromising lineup of talent from the Arkham Audio family that have been making waves since the labels unveiling just over a year ago.

Part 1 is constructed of 10 quality tracks that speak many different tongues of techno. From Roman Poncet’s rhythmic, pulsing, hard energy approach, through to a percussively driven, bassline rich and highly addictive upbeat style from Insolate. Crashguard & Denise Rabe deliver riveting hard, dark and heavy approachs to the mix, while the likes of CYRK & DJ T-1000 fuse together eclectic elements to make tracks offering a unique left of centre approach that is full of surprises. Luis Flores lets everything breathe with his slow burn offering while J. Blofeld cleverly paints a world full of layered soundscapes. The multifaceted part 1 side is completed with Dustin Zahn & K-Ten producing lush synth fueled soundscapes which perfectly mix into this dynamic first part.

The second part of the compilation turns up the intensity to the maximum with 9 slamming club ready tracks. The man behind the label is Jerome D., aka Cri Du Coeur and he drops a delicious acid heavy track. His approach is supported by Marhu & Florian Meindl who also construct a world of acid-fueled mayhem. Drumcell continues to bring cleverly constructed chaos with a suspenseful array of hard sporadic energy.

An unrelenting flood of hard body moving frequencies is added by Zadig & Joe Farr before thick heavy basslines from Germany‘s Oliver Deutschmann fill out the spectrum. Kaiser and Madben’s gripping tracks are full of suspense and depth and round out this pounding second part of the compilation with a bang.

From top to toe this is a synergy of vigorous tracks that formulate to make an in-vigorating compilation from the Belgium based Arkham Audio which is releasing on September 3rd.

The track kicks off with the eponymous ‚Energy‘ vocal sample, and syncopated percussions, builds with energetic hats, to introduce a timeless chord theme. Add to that a heavily reverbed kick and ever-evolving tension curve thanks to a great arrangement, and out comes a perfect track.

After their first joint venture crystallized in the form of a remix by Toni for one of Oliver’s tracks, Berliner Toni Dextor releases his first full EP on Adroit Recordings, with Deutschmann on remix duties.

‚Complex’ spells trouble from the get go: heavy drums, a dynamic, straightforward bassline and a simple yet effective melody captivate instantly, showcasing Toni’s ability to produce dancefloor anthems. ‘Type X’ follows in the same vein, albeit a bit on the more restrained side. It unfolds confidently into another heavy hitter perfect for peak time. ‘Type A’, on the other hand, offers a more explorative groove, firmly set atop a winding bassline and armed with similarly weighty drums. Oliver Deutschmann takes on ‘Type X’, adding more suspense via brooding pads and razor-sharp cymbal crashes, making for a less aggressive yet still compelling arrangement.

With the second vinyl release of its new record label venture, Gegen showcases two staples of the Berlin club scene.

On the A-side, Berghain regular DJ, acclaimed producer and multi-label founder Oliver Deutschmann brings his signature sound of hypnotic “8-AM-on-a-Sunday” big room techno. “Wach” (awake in German) has the kind of sound that builds on layers upon layers of skillfully designed drums.

On the B-side with “Roadkill”, Gegen’s own residents La Fraicheur & Leonard de Leonard come up with a moody track carrying a weird combination of gritty and dirty synths with spacious sound design that make you wonder if you didn’t get thrown off the side of the Milky Way by a boisterous clunky spacecraft on its last leg.
On remix duty, Gegen is playing with its Italian roots in its choice of two newcomers: Mar/us and WarinD.

Making his producer debut with this remix, Mar/us, another Gegen resident, is coming-in strong with a harmonic tear-jerker full of pads oozing with 90’s influences and whose melancholy is balanced out by a martial groove.

As for WarinD, he completely flipped the original on its head and swapped the moodiness for a kick-heavy hard-hitter adorned with ethereal dissonant synths and brand new vocals.

Berlin techno bastion Jamaica Suk’s generous ‘Uncertain Landscape’ series continues with the third part of this weighty 17-track release serving up another quartet of rugged grooves.

Representing Portugal, Temudo brings fierce tribal energy on ‘L9’. Channeling the driving sounds of early 2000s techno, he brings it up to date with pummeling bass and kicks and taut percussive loops that flex and fire with a mighty intent.

It’s over to France next and a big tempo change from Ersatz Olfolks with the meditative ‘Reflecting Surface’ chugging along at an unhurried pace. Resonant metallic sounds chime over the stuttering kicks, with wet acidic gurgles rising and combining with a complementary hi-hat shuffle. Distorted, overdriven edges emerge, gentle screeches and hisses forced into existence.

Techno royalty Oliver Deutschmann pitches in next with the pacey contrast of ‘Hunting’. Its manic tempo is contrasted by its comparative lightness of touch, with the acidic theme continuing. The 303s are teasingly muted, meandering relentlessly under rapid-fire clap patterns and urgent hi-hats.

Parallax Records boss and Berghain and Concrete guests Pharaoh and Yogg provide the closing salvo, an experimental cut by the name of ‘Betelgeuse’. Broken beats underpin glitchy textures and gnarled surfaces, providing a challenging workout for discerning dancefloors.
