Info:
Birmingham’s Poppy & The Jezebels are back with a new single on their own Gumball Machine label on the 28th May 2012.

The band emerged with the ‘Underage’ scene while still at school when they travelled from Birmingham to play alongside The Horrors at the opening night of the original Underage Club at The Coronet in London’s Elephant and Castle. Seriously adept at social networking, the girls were sharing bills with SCUM and Shonen Knife before Mollie’s fourteenth birthday. The band signed a publishing deal with Mute and released two critically acclaimed indie seven-inch singles, establishing their own label – Gumball Machine.

Having left school to concentrate on the band full time, the girls realised that their charming but lo-fi and DIY approach would never support their dreams of real pop immortality, and enlisted the help of top pop producer Richard X to re-emerge now as Poppy & The Jezebels mark 2!

‘Sign In, Dream On, Drop Out!’ was produced and mixed by Richard X (Sugarbabes, Kylie, M.I.A.). Along with a ‘Richard X Meets Larry Least mix’ by Richard X and Daniel Miller, the single also features remix from Substantial Error. The song addresses matters current on teen earth and suggests alternatives to the crushingly conventional pathways on offer today.

The collaboration with Richard X came about when, smitten with his pop philosophy and intrigued by his remixes and ‘re-productions’ of Soft Cell and Saint Etienne, the girls approached the producer with their rehearsal room demos. He agreed and the single was completed in January.

Poppy & The Jezebels met and started playing together at the same Birmingham comprehensive school when Mollie Kingsley (Vocals, Bass), Dom Vine (Keyboards, Vocals) and Amber Bradbury (Guitars, Vocals), then in year nine were joined by Poppy Twist (Drums, Vocals), a year older at fifteen.

The band are set to announce a handful of UK dates in the very near future.

Poppy & The Jezebels listen to classic pop from (Phil) Spector to Spears. They swear by The Slits yet retain a place in their hearts that is forever Spiceworld.

They are clever, funny and devastatingly cool – and they don’t sound like anyone else. The Guardian

Well, aren’t they just a big pile of charisma? We’ll keep banging on about how we liked them first… are Poppy & The Jezebels going to be the best thing to happen to girls and music and life in general? (Yes!) Sugarscape

A whirling airy, big sounding single from the teenage uberfraus… NME (Track of the Week)

Like something from the golden days of Smash Hits – Poppy & The Jezebels have the freshest girl group sound I’ve heard since the days when Destiny’s Child were still good. The Guardian Guide

Info:
This is the first single from Nitzer Ebb frontman Douglas J. McCarthy’s first solo album. Dark and dreamy, Sparse desert themed, Tech House. This is a truly unique recording from one of the greatest innovators of early modern electronic dance music.

Dark growling bass, real shuffling drums, spacey slide guitar, subtle simple synth parts underpin one of Douglas’ greatest vocal performances to date. An eerie sense of twilight magic spun together within one of Blakkat#s finest productions.

Remixes are courtesy of Reverse Commuter, also know as [a]pendics.shuffle & Kenneth J Gibson. This mix is a must for lovers of Indie Dance, it’s Primal Scream meets The Doors, the greatest Indie Dance record not to come from Madchester, huge live drums, scally House piano parts, groovy duck dunn b-lines, an absolute floor killer!

The Mono Electric Orchestra is the new project of the legendary producer/remixer Barry Jamieson. Barry has been making massive dance floor records since the late 80s. He was Sasha’s sideman on all his releases for the past 10 years, and has remixed everyone from Thom Yorke to Madoona. Theses remixes are a new frontier of Techno with vocals. We believe that time will tell the importance of these works. Both the vocal mix and the dub are built around a colossal swinging Techno groove peppered with wild drum FX, and soaring synth noises. The bass line from the original version builds into the track at the halfway point. The energy is relentless, the atmosphere is electric and both verrsions are powerful floor fillers of the highest order!

The debut album “Life Is Sucking The Life Out Of Me” is an enjoyable journey through the darker side of electronic dance music.

Nitzer Ebb founder/electronic music pioneer Douglas J McCarthy began writing his first ever solo album in 2010 during an European DJ tour with his wife, video artist Hazel Hiull McCarthy III.

McCarthy and world renowned producer/former M People singer Mark Bell – lauded for his work with such acts as Doc Martin and Felix Da Housecat – recorded the album in Los Angeles over a year that found McCarthy performing 150 shows with Nitzer Ebb, caring for his father in England, and travelling across India by train.

Throughout his worldwide travels, McCarthy wrote “Life Is Sucking The Life Out Of Me” using NAtive Instruments’ Maschine – returning to LA reguarly to work with Bell, who produced and mixed the record. Recalling Cabaret Voltaire, Heroes era Bowie and Kraftwerk, this recird devilishly blends industrial and experimental sounds with heavy dance floor beats and pop melodies.

For the first time, McCarthy is releasing a record through Beatport, the Denver-based leader in electronic music downloads. Beatport provides electronic music practitioners and fans alike with an unprecedented quality and breadth of artists, filling the gap left by record labels unable to appease the discerning electronic music buying public.

Revolutionary in its conception, execution and distribution, “Life Is Sucking The Life Out Of Me” truly exploits the opportunity a debut album provides for an artist to create new rules of engagement.

In over 20 years of her musical career Luci van Org fearlessly overstepped almost every genre- border with the enormous range of her voice.

In ex- “Rummelsnuff”- band- member and actor Roman Leitner-Shamov she finally finds her equivalent as a singer…

MEYSTERSINGER was born. Three full octaves of voice – twice!

Effortlessly Luci and Roman present the whole range of emotions in german speaking – minor keys.

Which radiate even brighter together with MEYSTERSINGER’S ingeniously-minimalistic electronic sounds. Totally unique, not to classify – but even though MEYSTERSINGER immediately find their way into every listener’s heart and ear.

Info:
In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis construct a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers, getting ready for the invasion of Earth!

This is Iron Sky, with an epic soundtrack by Laibach.

With a theatrical trailer viewed by more than four and a half million people on YouTube and an amazing reception from the fans, the film had its successful worldwide premiere at the Berlin Film Festival on the 11 February 2012.

The film creators have collaborated actively with their audience and fans on all fronts, from publicity through content to funding. People who were interested in Iron Sky could contribute in a variety of ways: by demanding to see the film in their home city using a system called Crowd Controls (http://www.ironsky.net/demand/), by collaborating in creating the movie in the acclaimed film creation platform Wreckamovie (http://www.wreckamovie.com/iron-sky/) and by investing in the film (10% of its budget came from fans).

As The Hollywood Reporter noted, “the score by Laibach adds character, mixing pastiche pop with symphonic elements”.

“I was actually sitting in a sauna with our team when one of us, Jarmo Puskala, came up with the idea that we should do a film about Nazis on the Moon. I agreed, and my number one demand was that if so, I want Laibach to do the music”, said Iron Sky’s director Timo Vuorensola about their choice of artist.

“It was a far-fetched idea at the moment, but stuck into my head as a general style guideline not just for music, but for the general approach for the film, and finally, when I heard they would be interested after we contacted them, I was in ecstasy. Their unique sense of humor and nice and twisted approach will really light a spark in the wretched genre of film music. We’re hoping to create something like Vangelis did for Blade Runner – not just a soundtrack, but a whole new world that echoes through the music.”
