Press Info:
novamute is set to re–release one of the greatest and truly innovative records of all time, Cabaret Voltaire’s electro punk classic ‘Nag Nag Nag’, on September 30th.

The single is a pre-cursor to a Cabaret Voltaire retrospective ‘Best of’ ‘The Original Sound of Sheffield’, released on The Grey Area of Mute Records in October 2002.

Originally out in 1979 on Rough Trade, the novamute release will be available on CD and 2 x 12″ and features the timeless original version together with brand new mixes by Tiga & Zyntherius, Akufen and Cabs founder member Richard H Kirk.

Tiga and Zyntherius have contributed to the package with a re-vocalled rework which bears all the hall-marks of an intense ‘labour of love’ approach to the project. Tiga’s vocal punks-up the original whilst Zyntherius’s (Jori Hulkonnen) backing track propels the track firmly into the 21st Century. Techno whizz, man of the moment, Montreal’s Akufen pushes the track into the stratosphere combining 2-step, techno, house, electro and bossa-nova. Even by Akufen current high standards this remix is, as they say, ‘next level’ shit.

The Cabs’ own Richard Kirk, in turn, has completed an intensely spot-on remix which retains all the excitement and atmosphere of the original.

Cabaret Voltaire, who alongside Human League, Throbbing Gristle, Fad Gadget and The Normal, were at the forefront of the UK Electronic Movement of the late 70s and are without doubt one of the most influential acts of the last twenty five years.

Initially a three piece, Richard H. Kirk, Stephen Mallinder and Chris Watson began by playing around with recorded sounds manipulated by basic reel-to-reel tape recorders in Sheffield in 1973. Way ahead of their time, these ideas cumulated in 1975, when the three staged their first performance of these sound experiments and assumed the name Cabaret Voltaire, taken from the name of the club started in Zurich by the principals of the Dada art movement during the First World War. The band began working with Rough Trade in 1978, producing a string of brilliant singles and the now seminal triumvirate of albums “Mix Up” (1979), “Voice of America” (1980) and their most prophetic album “Red Mecca” (1981). Cabaret Voltaire’s rare but much anticipated live performances, with their innovative use of film and video, were documented on the three live albums, “Live at the YMCA” (1979), “Live at the Lyceum” (1981) and “HAI” live in Japan (1982), and the 90 minute video “Doublevision presents….” (1982). Chris Watson left the group in October 1981, but Kirk and Mallinder went on to record further great albums throughout the Eighties, having a huge influence on the developing House and Techno scenes in both America and Europe. Cabaret Voltaire continue to be a major inspiration to this day.

Press Info:
And they are doing it again!

The Snuff Crew is back!

With two crispy floor bangers the Snuff Crew is back after a longer creative break. Soundtechnically in the known percussive influenced acidstyle.

On “Midnight Peepin” striking vocal samples enter the sound and fire into the crowd _ no time for Sadnes!!! So it chirps drifting through night.

AGN1 on the other hand comes with the classic 303 line and lots of oldschool drums, a track that would also have had a place on my “Post Acid Crash” compilation in 1991!!! Acid party stuff from the Snuff.

On the B side TCCM present their remixes of the A side tracks in typical style, dirty and without compromise!
While “Midnight Peepin RMX” clearly shows and celebrates the elements of the original track, AGN1 RMX is a complete reinterpretation of the track structure and sounds, made and mangled from the original drums.

A record with an extremely varied soundscape from original oldschool to dirty interpretation. This disc is a must for acid fans!
