This mix is dedicated to nightclubs, the nightclub experience and the impact it has had on my life. Obviously it’s an homage to Techno and my interpretation of it – but the mix is about Berghain, an approximation of the way I play there and the relationship I have with the club. That relationship is similar to the one I had with my first home, Limelight, in New York City from the early 90s onwards. This similarity is that they are the only two clubs I’ve been to in the world that had an immense, life changing effect on me and the only two places where, when I walked in, I felt this is home.

Both places share(d) the same hedonistic attitude I found unmatched elsewhere and in both instances I entered as a patron and later became a part of their history. I’ll never forget that first walk up the stairs onto Berghain’s main floor as I will never forget the first time I entered the dance floor at Lord Michael’s Future Shock. This mix is dedicated to that simple concept.

Dieser Mix ist Clubs gewidmet, dem Cluberlebnis an sich und den Auswirkungen, die beide auf mein Leben hatten. Offensichtlich ist es eine Hommage an Techno und meine Interpretation dessen – aber der Mix dreht sich um das Berghain, ist eine Annäherung an meine Art dort zu spielen und das Verhältnis, das ich zu diesem Club habe. Diese Beziehung ähnelt der, die ich zu meinem ersten Zuhause hatte, Limelight in New York City ab Anfang der 90er Jahre. Die Ähnlichkeit liegt darin, dass es die einzigen beiden von mir besuchten Clubs auf der Welt sind, die eine immense, lebensverändernde Auswirkung auf mich hatten und die einzigen Orte waren, an denen ich beim Betreten spürte, dies ist Zuhause.

Beide Orte teil(t)en dieselbe hedonistische Haltung, die ich nirgends sonst fand. In beiden Fällen ging ich als Gast hinein und wurde später zum Teil ihrer Geschichte. Ich werde niemals den ersten Aufstieg die Treppen hoch zum Berghain-Floor vergessen, so wie ich niemals das erste Mal vergessen werde, als ich den Dancefloor auf Lord Michael’s Future Shock betrat. Dieser Mix ist diesem einfachen Konzept gewidmet.
